Hi @Sj-man,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Ghost printing and decoding fail messages on a printer like the HP Laser MFP 179 can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a guide to help you.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. HP often releases firmware updates that address various issues, including print quality problems.
- Inspect the Drum Unit: Ghosting issues can sometimes be related to the drum unit. Check if the drum unit is properly seated and inspect it for any visible damage. If the drum is worn out or damaged, consider replacing it.
- Clean the Printer: Make sure you have thoroughly cleaned the inside of the printer, including the drum unit and the corona wire. Follow the printer's manual for specific instructions on cleaning.
- Check Paper Quality: Ensure that you are using high-quality paper that is appropriate for your printer. Low-quality or damp paper can cause printing issues.
- Adjust Print Settings: In your printer settings, check if there are any print quality adjustments you can make. You may want to experiment with different print quality settings to see if it affects the ghosting issue.
- Replace the Imaging Drum: If the ghosting issue persists, consider replacing the imaging drum. The drum may wear out over time and affect print quality.
- Inspect the Toner Cartridges: Even though you mentioned changing all the toners, double-check that they are installed correctly and are not leaking. Also, make sure you have removed any protective tapes or seals from the toner cartridges.
- Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams in the printer. Even small bits of torn paper can affect print quality.
- Connectivity and Cables: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. Check all cables and connections to make sure they are secure.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
