Hi @taskanderson

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue — it’s understandably frustrating when brand-new cartridges trigger a replacement error.

Let’s walk through a structured set of steps to help resolve this on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP 936 series and compatible with the 9125e.
  • If you recently switched from Instant Ink to regular cartridges, confirm that the printer is no longer enrolled in Instant Ink — some models restrict usage during active enrollment.

2. Inspect and Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Power on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove all cartridges and inspect for:
    • Protective tape still attached (especially orange or blue strips).
    • Ink residue or debris on the gold contacts.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the cartridge contacts and the contact points inside the printer.
  • Let everything dry completely before reinserting.

3. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power it back on and check if the error clears.

4. Update Printer Firmware

5. Try a Different Cartridge Set (if available)

  • If possible, test with another set of cartridges to rule out defective units.
  • Even new cartridges can occasionally fail to register due to internal chip faults.

If the error persists after these steps, let me know the exact wording of the message or whether it references a specific cartridge. I’ll help you dig deeper.

You're doing everything right by chasing down answers — and I’ll stick with you until it’s resolved.
