Hi @Krisby422

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing smudges on your printed copies, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Check Ink Levels

  • Low ink levels can cause inconsistent printing. Ensure your ink cartridges are not running low or empty.

2. Allow Ink to Dry

  • If you’re using glossy or photo paper, the ink may smudge if not given enough time to dry. Allow printed pages to dry completely before handling.

3. Use Quality Paper

  • Ensure you’re using the right type of paper for your printer. Low-quality paper can absorb ink unevenly, leading to smudges.

4. Adjust Print Settings

  • Check your printer settings and ensure you’re using the correct print quality for your job. Higher quality settings often apply more ink.

5. Clean the Print Heads

  • Clogged print heads can lead to smudged prints:
    • Use the printer's built-in cleaning function (found in the maintenance section of the printer settings).
    • Run the print head cleaning process a couple of times if necessary.

6. Check for Obstructions

  • Inspect the printer for any paper debris or foreign objects that could interfere with the printing process.

7. Perform a Print Head Alignment

  • Misaligned print heads can also cause print quality issues. Use the printer's alignment feature in the settings.

8. Check for Software Issues

  • Ensure that you are using the latest drivers for your printer. Visit the manufacturer’s website to download any updates.

9. Use an Ink Fixative (if applicable)

  • For certain types of ink (like inkjet), you can consider using a fixative spray to help set the ink on the paper, especially for arts and crafts projects.

10. Test with Different Paper

  • Try printing on a different type of paper to see if the smudging continues. This can help determine if the paper is the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
