HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a

I recently installed a new HP 950XL cartridge in my HP Officejet Pro 8600.  Following installation, I received the following error message:  "There is a problem with the printer or ink system.  Turn printer off, then on.  If the problem persists, contact HP."  I contacted HP after following these instructions and disconnecting from the power and internet.  The problem persists.  HP says my computer is out of warranty and referred me to the HP Community.  If anyone can help me, I surely would appreciate it! This brand new cartridge is not cheap!
