@3JCW, Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉
I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:
Check the Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure the ink cartridges are properly seated. Open the printer's cartridge access door and carefully remove and then reinsert the cartridges to make sure they are in the right position.
Inspect the Cartridge Contacts:
- Remove the cartridges and inspect the gold contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer. Wipe them gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol. This helps remove any dust or ink buildup that could be causing the communication error.
Ensure Compatibility:
- Double-check that the new cartridges you installed are the correct model for the HP ENVY 5010. Check the guide.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in. This can help reset the printer's internal settings and might clear the error.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Go to HP’s official website and check if there’s any new firmware available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can fix communication issues with ink cartridges.
Check for Paper Jams or Other Blockages:
- Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer. Sometimes, an issue in the paper feed area can cause communication errors with the cartridges.
Try a Different Cartridge:
- If you have access to a different cartridge, try replacing the new one with another to rule out a defective cartridge.
Clean the Printer’s Cartridge Slot:
- If there’s any visible ink buildup in the cartridge slots, use a soft cloth to clean it. Excess ink or debris can cause poor communication between the printer and the cartridges.
Perform a Printer Reset:
- If you continue to have trouble, a factory reset of your printer might be necessary. Follow these steps to reset it to its default settings:
- On the printer's control panel, go to the “Settings” or “Setup” menu.
- Look for an option like “Restore Defaults” or “Factory Reset” and confirm the reset.
