I have an HP Deskjet 4155e printer. I just added a tricolor ink cartridge and now my printer has printed a message that it needs alignment. It seems like the ink cartridge is properly placed. What should it look like or where should the cartridge be inside the printer after adding ink.

Hi @Julia858 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you install a new ink cartridge in your HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer, the printer usually requires you to align the cartridges to ensure the best print quality. Here’s what you need to do:

Proper Placement of the Ink Cartridge

Check the Ink Cartridge Placement:

  • Open the front cover of your printer.
  • The ink cartridge should be installed in the carriage, which moves into view when you open the cover.
  • The tricolor cartridge (which you just installed) should be placed in the slot on the left side of the carriage.

Ensure the Cartridge is Seated Correctly:

  • Make sure the cartridge is securely snapped into place. You should hear a click when it is properly inserted.
  • Check that the cartridge is not tilted or loose.

Aligning the Ink Cartridges

Once you’ve confirmed that the cartridge is properly installed, you can proceed with aligning the cartridges:

Use the Printer Control Panel:

  • If your printer printed a message indicating that it needs alignment, there should be instructions on how to start the alignment process.
  • Often, there is an option on the printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device to start the alignment.

Align Using HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to Printer Settings and select Tools or Print Quality Tools.
  • Select Align or Align Printhead and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.

Print an Alignment Page:

  • The printer will print an alignment page with specific patterns.
  • Follow the instructions on the alignment page or the HP Smart app to complete the process. This might involve placing the printed page on the scanner glass and pressing a button to scan it.

After Alignment

  • Once the alignment is complete, your printer should be ready to use with optimal print quality.
  • If you continue to have issues with the alignment or the printer does not recognize the cartridge, try removing and reinstalling the cartridge or restarting your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
