@Eddy7135, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some of steps you can try:
Check Cartridge Authenticity

Ensure the cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge and not a third-party or refilled one. HP firmware updates often block non-genuine cartridges.

Disable Cartridge Protection

HP printers have a feature called Cartridge Protection that can prevent older or third-party cartridges from working. You can try disabling it:

  • On the printer's touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Cartridge Protection.
  • Select Disable Cartridge Protection.
  • Save and exit.

Alternatively, you can do this via the HP Smart App on your computer or phone.

Downgrade the Firmware

If the cartridge worked before and stopped after a firmware update, you might be able to roll back the firmware:

  • Search for your printer model and “firmware downgrade” on HP official site.
  • Download an older firmware version and follow the instructions to install it.

Reset the Printer

Sometimes a full reset helps:

  1. Remove all cartridges.
  2. Power off the printer and unplug it for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and power it on.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges one at a time

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
