Hi @Cassens4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your new ink cartridges from Walmart lasted only five pages before running out, here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you purchased are compatible with your printer model. Using the wrong cartridges can lead to poor performance.

2. Inspect the Cartridges

  • Check the cartridges for any physical damage or defects. Look for:
    • Protective seals or tape that may not have been removed.
    • Any leaks or visible issues.

3. Print Settings

  • If you are printing in a high-quality mode (like photo or graphics), it can consume ink faster:
    • Try printing in a draft or economy mode to save ink.

4. Run Maintenance

  • Run the printer's maintenance routines to ensure everything is functioning properly:
    1. Access the printer's settings from the control panel or HP Smart app.
    2. Look for maintenance options such as Clean Printheads or Align Cartridges.

5. Check for Software Issues

  • Sometimes, software can report incorrect ink levels. Make sure your printer drivers and software are updated:
    • Use the HP Smart app or visit the HP website to check for updates.

6. Test Print Quality

  • Print a test page to see if the print quality is acceptable. If there are issues (like streaks or fading), it may indicate a problem with the printhead or the cartridges themselves.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes reset any internal errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
