I replaced a Cyan 952 Cartridge with a storebought Genuine HP Cyan 952 Cartridge, as I have replaced other color cartridges in the past months with no issue, but now my printer says the brand new 952 Cartridge is obsolete.  Presumably HP did some online software update to the printer which has caused that issue?  Can it be fixed, or is HP saying I need to throw out $150 worth of color replacement cartridges I have on hand so I always had replacements?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Was your old cyan ink and HP Genuine ink? and if you insert your old ink, do you still get the error message?

Let us know 🙂

Thanks!

Hi...yes, the old cyan cartridge was genuine HP (952) and I did put that one back in thinking it would just say it was out of ink, but even with the old one, the printer says its an out of date cartridge.  I did the Turn on/Turn off thing too, but have the same message, saying its an "Older Generation" cartridge.

If this is a genuine HP ink cartridge, I would need some information related to the ink cartridges and the printer which cannot be shared on a public post for security reasons.
