HP OfficeJet Pro 8023 All-in-One Printer

Please can someone tell me how to switch off HP ink cartridge protection?  I have already changed security settings and disabled the cartridge protection option, and it still doesn't work.

NOTE TO HP.  It's an absolute liberty taken by HP to restrict this as a default (dressed up as protection) and frankly the effort required to disable this makes me never want to buy another HP printer again!

Hi @RORY_1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To disable ink cartridge protection on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8023, please follow these steps to ensure that it is correctly turned off. Sometimes, certain steps need to be double-checked for the settings to take effect.

Steps to Disable Cartridge Protection:

Access Printer Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart App or go to your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS). For EWS, open a web browser, type in the printer's IP address (found on the printer's control panel), and press Enter.

Go to Security Settings:

  • In the HP Smart App, look for Settings > Printer Settings.
  • In EWS, navigate to the Settings or Printer Settings tab.

Disable Cartridge Protection:

  • Locate the HP Cartridge Protection option and ensure it is set to "Disabled" or Off.
  • If you already have it set to "Off" but are still experiencing restrictions, re-enable it, restart the printer, and disable it again.

Save Settings and Restart:

  • After making the change, make sure to save the settings if prompted.
  • Restart your printer to allow the settings to take effect.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
