Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am fed up to the teeth with ink cartridges not being recognised, reinsert the cartridges etc - nothing works, have to take them out, turn the printer off, turn it back on, put the cartridges back.  Ok, I wouldn't mind doing it once but every time I want to print a page! come on!.  The page count is only 398, Envy 5030.  I'll NEVER buy a HP printer again and another thing, the cartridge protection is turned off but still can't use generic cartridges.  Come on HP if you are going to charge an arm and a leg for them at least make sure they work.

Is the issue you are having with genuine HP cartridges or with generic cartridges?  HP has no control over the quality of third-party cartridges, if you are having issues with those you should take the problem up with your supplier.

As for "Cartridge protection", turning this "off" in your HP printer only means that cartridges you insert will not be locked to your printer.  If they were locked to a different printer then they will not be allowed to print except in the original printer (or in some cases, pool of printers).  The printer always checks for protected cartridges, turning it off only sets whether the printer will lock the cartridge to this printer.  If you are purchasing cartridges with cartridge protection set you need to contact your supplier.  They should test the cartridges and not ship locked cartridges, as these will not work in any printer other than the original one.

Genuine HP cartridges.   The solution you presented was nothing new and just the stock answer to the question. I have updated the firmware and that did not help either.  HP needs to fix the firmware.

I have not yet provided any solutions, I was only asking for clarification.  What exactly is the error message you are getting?

These are almost new GENUINE HP Envy 5030 65XL black and colour cartridges.

The message is "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer.  if this problem persists, replace the cartridges.

Don't tell me they are not seated properly, I'm not that stupid.  I have also cleaned them which I shouldn't have to do for new cartridges.

There is no way I'm going to fork out another AU$50 for cartridges that in all probability will result in the exact same error message.  I still maintain it is a firmware problem.

It is true that you should not need to clean the contracts for a new cartridge.  If this has happened multiple times and/or with multiple cartridges I would suspect either an issue with the contacts in the printer or  some intermittent failure in the printer electronics.  If you have already cleaned the printer contacts as described in step 5 of the document here your printer may require service.

Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth or swab with distilled water, and then clean the electrical contacts in the carriage.

Wait 10 minutes for the contacts to dry, and then reinsert the cartridge into its color-coded slot.

Repeat these steps for the other cartridge if it was indicated in the error message.

Close the door or lid to the cartridge access area.

If the error persists, clean the cartridge and carriage contacts a second time.
