HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

I am getting an error message that the ink cartridges are faulty or not installed properly.
I have opened, cleaned and replaced with a new ink cartridge and the error still appears.
What should I do?

Hi @David_C89,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer is still showing the error message that the ink cartridges are faulty or not installed properly, despite cleaning and replacing them, try these troubleshooting steps:

1. Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check the Ink Cartridges Again

  • Remove the cartridges and inspect for any protective tape (if new).
  • Reinsert them carefully, ensuring they click into place.
  • Use genuine HP ink cartridges—third-party or refilled ones may cause issues.

3. Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  • Let them dry completely before reinserting them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
