Showing that I need a refill after new cartridge printed only about 50 pages

Hi @Pattipo

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how disappointing it feels to see a refill alert after only about 50 pages with a new cartridge. Thank you for sharing the details—it shows you’ve been attentive to the setup and usage.

Let’s go through some steps that can help confirm whether the cartridge is truly low or if the system is misreading the levels.

Steps to Check and Continue Printing

Print Quality Diagnostic Page

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Reports or Tools.
  • Select Print Quality Report.
  • Review the colors and patterns. If they look strong and consistent, the cartridge may still have usable ink even if the status shows low.

Check Ink Levels in Windows 11

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer (InkJet 232e–237e).
  • Go to Supplies or Estimated Ink Levels.
  • Compare what the app shows with the diagnostic page. If print quality is fine, you can continue printing until the output fades.

Avoid Ink Waste During Setup

  • Ensure cartridges are seated firmly once. Repeated removals can trigger extra priming cycles, which use ink.
  • Keep the printer powered on when not in use, as frequent power cycling can also consume ink during maintenance routines.

Firmware Update

  • In the HP App, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update.
  • Install any available updates to ensure accurate ink monitoring.

If your printouts look good, you can continue printing despite the refill alert. The system provides early warnings, but the real test is the quality of the printed page—when colors fade or streak, that’s when replacement is needed.

Would you like me to also share how to run the clean printhead utility from Windows 11? It can help confirm whether the cartridges are delivering ink properly.
