This is the issue I am having: If the error displays with SETUP or Instant Ink Ready cartridges installed, or you installed new cartridges and got the error, continue to the next step.
I am not sure what my steps are, as it displayed randomly and I am not able to use my printer.
I am using the HP officejet 5258

Hi @sashanmurphy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are encountering an error with your HP OfficeJet 5258 printer related to SETUP or Instant Ink Ready cartridges, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.
Steps to Resolve Cartridge Errors
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off your printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.
- Check for any protective tape on the cartridges that needs to be removed (especially on the ink nozzles).
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges connect.
- Ensure there is no dust or ink residue.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP support website.
Perform a Printer Reset:
- With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help diagnose and fix printer issues automatically.
Try Different Cartridges:
- If you have a spare cartridge or a different cartridge available (preferably a known working one), try installing it to see if the error persists.
Check for Printer Errors:
- Look for any error messages or blinking lights on the printer’s control panel that might provide more information about the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
