Does anyone have any idea why random images would be printing pixelated grey boxes instead of solid black? I tried printing from Adobe and Mac Preview. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe, the printer, and cleaned the printheads. This has been ongoing for weeks, now and it is only certain images on PDF files

@RACHMH, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
If the issue is limited to PDF files, it is not an issue with the printer. This is an application-specific issue.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Let us try to print this PDF file as an image.
Refer to this document.
Refer to this document to troubleshoot print quality issues - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues

This problem is actually not only limited to PDFs anymore, it is also occurring for JPEGS and PNGs--only when I use fine printing (best quality). I have made sure all firmware is up to date but it does not look like there are drivers available for MacOS anymore. It occurs while using all programs like Adobe and Preview.

Try making a standalone copy of a picture from the flatbed glass and check if that prints fine. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Also, clean the ink cartridges up to 2 times as shown in this document - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues
Print a quality report to check the result.
Let me know how it goes.
