Hi,

Problem:
- I am running a ENVY 5530 All-in-One Printer/Scanner (A9J40B) on Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). I am connected to the printer via Wifi. --> See photos for printer product label

- I purchased this printer second-hand and it came installed with 1 colour (Model 301, CH562E) and 1 b/w cartridge (Model 301, CH561E). It recognized the cartridges that came installed and I was able to print documents without issues via Wifi. --> See photo for old cartridges

- The black cartridge ran out recently and I purchased an original HP Ink Cartridge (Model 61XL, CH563W) to replace it. The packaging on the new cartridge specifically mentions that it is compatible with HP ENVY 5530. I purchased the cartridge from a reputed chain retailer for electronics in Singapore (Popular Singapore). --> See photo of new cartridge

- However, when I installed the new cartridge (61XL), I got an error message on the printer screen 'Incompatible Cartridge(s) - The indicated cartridge(s) are not intended for use in this printer.'. --> See photo of error and of installed cartridges.01 Printer Serial Number.jpeg02 - Old original black and colour cartridges02 - Old original black and colour cartridges03 - New genuine original black cartridge  and packaging03 - New genuine original black cartridge and packaging04 - New black cartridge installed04 - New black cartridge installed05 - Error on printer screen (after new cartridge install)05 - Error on printer screen (after new cartridge install)

 

I would like help with:
- How to get printer to recognize my genuine HP 61XL cartridge as compatible?
- How to downgrade my firmware? Current firmware version: ORL1CN2024AR. Desired firmware version: R1418A or R1547A

 

Troubleshooting Performed (no success):
I have tried the following already with no success and am feeling extremely frustrated with the printer. I have spent several hours trying to fix this issue. Can someone help me to get this cartridge working on this printer? Things I have already tried, but with no avail:
- Removed all plastic covers from the new cartridge before installing it.
- Removed and reinstalled the new cartridge. -> Did not work (same error)
- Removed the new cartridge, replaced with the old cartridge (301)-> Error went away (suggesting old cartridge is recognized as compatible, but the new one is not)
- Removed the old cartridge and replaced again with the new cartridge -> Did not work (same error)
- Cleaned the surface of the connectors of the new cartridge and reinstalled -> Did not work (same error)
- Cleaned the surface of the connectors on the printer and reinstalled -> Did not work (same error)
- Installed the old cartridge, turned off the printer, turned on again (using power button), switched with new cartrdige -> Did not work (same error)
- Turned off the printer, turned on again (using power buttin) -> Did not work (same error)
- Tried a Software Factory Reset: Gear button > Tools > Restory Factory Defaults --> Did not work (same error)
- Installed the old cartridge, long pressed the power button for 15 seconds and waited for reset, replaced with the new cartridge -> Did not work (same error)
- Installed the new cartridge, long pressed the power button for 15 seconds and waited for reset -> Did not work (same error)
- Downloaded older printer firmware version for ENVY 5530, but it did not install due to newer firmware being installed (current Firmware version: 2024AR; Tried to install: R1418A, R1547A).

Your printer was originally sold in a region that uses 301 cartridges.  To use the HP 61 cartridges suitable for Singapore, you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

 

I do not know of any way to downgraqde the firmware for the Envy 5530, and even if it were possible it would not make any difference in the regionalization code.

@nitinamp  - did you get the regionalization reset completed to allow your 61 series cartridges to work?  If not please let me know and I can ask to have your case escalated.
