Hi I need some help.
I have followed all the HP website troubleshoot options on how to fix my printer with the error on the printer that says
"Incompatible Cartridge" on my HP Officejet 4635.
I also called customer service and was told my only option was to buy a new printer. I only have ever bought HP Cartridge and they are very expensive so this problem wouldn't happen.
It was working fine until the other day it just decides the Cartridge that has been in the machine for months now is not Incompatible. I don't know why or how.
I still need to use the scanner, fax, and printer. Please help, I have a lot of work and can't afford to just go out a buy another printer right now. As the customer service person kept insisting was the only option.
If there is just a hail mary to get me through until I can get a new printer, also don't know what to do with all these HP Cartridge I bought and opened because that is what HP suggested to see if it works.
Thank you in advance!!!

Can you check to see what the last update your printer installed? I am seeing a lot of error codes with HP printers since recent updates in April with HP cartridges and aftermarket ones. I wonder if there is a problem with their latest update that locks out cartridges not HP.

It won't let me do anything on the printer. Even troubleshoot and the button doesn't work, it just stuck on the incompatible cartridge screen. I just check on my computer claims it's up to date.
The cartridge is an HP and had been in the printer for months and now it won't work. And swapped out with a new HP Cartridge and that one doesn't work either. I don't want to keep opening up a new Cartridge if it's not going to work.

I found this information when I went on the HP site and entered my printer info. It brought up all updates my printer has received, including this latest firmware update that has shut my printing down cold.
This is what the info in the update says:
This software tool will help you update your printer to the latest firmware. Please refer to Enhancement/Fixes for more detail about the firmware update.
Reminder: Dynamic security enabled printer. This Firmware includes dynamic security measures, which are used to block cartridges using a non-HP chip or modified or non-HP electronic circuitry. The printer is intended to work only with new or reused cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip or circuitry. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of the dynamic security measures and block cartridges that previously worked. More at: www.hp.com/learn/ds.
Note: For printers manufactured prior to December 1, 2016 dynamic security will not be enabled by this firmware. Please note that HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges.
I think this latest update is causing problems for more than just non-HP cartridges. Good luck, let me know what you learn.

Thanks. Its up to date. My printer was from before 2016, so It says it's not suppose to affect the Incompatible Cartridge reader. But I don't see how it would matter regardless it's an HP Cartridge, if HP Cartridges aren't compatible, what is?

You are lucky it is older, I think! LOL You might want to read each firmware update to be sure though. Good luck to you in finding a solution. Interesting that we are left to fend amongst ourselves rather than getting 'qualified' help. Printers and other machines don't just all stop working at once.

Thanks for trying.
Yeah, the only thing customer service kept telling me was to just buy a new printer. Like that's an option for everyone.
And the scanner and fax work just fine, it just the colored ink cartridge, it even prints in black and white when I take the colored cartridge out, but I guess it will try to make due until another solution comes up and go to FedEx to print color papers in the meantime or ask someone who has a printer to for a favor.
