Hi @Berns2
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for sharing that—seeing an “incompatible cartridges” error right after setting up your new HP Envy 6455 can be incredibly frustrating.
Let’s walk through the most effective steps to resolve this and get your printer working smoothly.
Step 1: Confirm You’re Using the Correct Cartridges
The HP ENVY 6455 uses:
- HP 67 Black
- HP 67 Tri-color
If you’re enrolled in HP Instant Ink, you may have received HP Instant Ink cartridges, which are only compatible while your subscription is active.
Check the cartridge label carefully. If it says “Instant Ink” and you’re not enrolled, that could be the issue.
Step 2: Remove and Reinstall the Cartridges
- Power on the printer.
- Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Remove both cartridges.
- Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
Step 3: Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause false cartridge errors:
- Open the HP App on your phone or computer.
- Go to Printer Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
Or download the latest firmware here:
HP ENVY 6455 Firmware and Drivers
Step 4: Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
This can clear temporary memory issues that trigger false errors.
Step 5: Check Region Compatibility
If the printer or cartridges were purchased in different countries, they may not be region-compatible. HP printers lock to the region of the first cartridge installed.
If this might apply to you, let me know—I can guide you through HP’s regionalization support process.
Let me know what the cartridge labels say or if you’re using Instant Ink—I’ll tailor the next steps accordingly.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
