HP photosmart C4780

I get the error message incompatible print cartridges. The printer prints , all contacts are clean. Ink is good and printer actually still prints and scans fine. You just have to bypass using the screen. I think it’s a software error. I’ve deleted the printer and reinstalled it. So annoying as this has only recently started doing this and I’m sure it’s to do with the software. Anyone else having the same issue ? Any clues ? Anyone recommend an alternative brand printer ?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Are you able to copy?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Tried to unplug, different outlet but made no difference.

downloading the firmaware updates made no difference. The process doesn’t actually complete and it says the app can’t run on this device as it causes security or performance issues . It says check with software provider for an update LOD version that runs on this version of windows (I’m using windows 10 pro.

I can still scan from the scan app I downloaded separately . No can’t copy as the incomparable print cartridge message remains. Although I have somehow bypassed it to print but can’t replicate that every time .

I recommend you to contact the HP Support Team regarding this as this could be a hardware issue.

Hi pretty sure it’s a software issue since the download won’t complete and the error message appears. I’ll try and contact them but I’ve a feeling I’m chasing my tail here.

Yep no help.  Guess you want me to buy a new printer ! Shame as this one was fine. I won’t buy HP again.
