HP ink cartridges can be refilled and you can take an XL and top it off so it is basically an XXXL
I have seen videos where chip was removed from a used HP cartridge and put in to a generic cartridge. It is difficult to do and if not secured the chip can fall into the mechanism causing worse problems than it is worth.
Toner chips are easier to replace, but I get toners for my CM1415 from AliExpress cheap and have never had them rejected. They are messy though and are refills.
