I installed non HP ink cartridges in my HP8610. After I installed the first color ink cartridge the printer worked perfect. After I installed the second however a few days later I received an error message saying "one or more cartridges appear to be damaged. Remove and replace with new cartridges." I then went and purchased authentic HP cartridges and installed them. I cannot get the error message to go away and the printer will not operate. I have done all of the recommended tips and trick on the HP website trying to reset the printer. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

Hi @MROverton,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting ink cartridge errors on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 can be frustrating. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps that may help resolve the issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- Power Cycle:
- Turn on the printer.
- While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
2. Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove all ink cartridges.
- Using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
- Clean the contacts inside the printer as well.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
3. Update or Reinstall Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Update Firmware:
- Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your printer model (HP Officejet Pro 8610) and select your operating system.
- Download and install the latest firmware update for your printer.
- Reinstall Firmware:
- Sometimes reinstalling the same firmware can reset error states. Follow the same steps as updating the firmware.
4. Check for Blockages or Residue
- Inspect the ink cartridge slots for any debris or residue.
- Ensure there are no obstructions or leftover pieces of packaging material inside the printer.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 10-15 seconds.
- While holding the power button, plug the power cord back into the printer.
- Release the power button after the printer starts to power on.
