I am using my daughter's printer and the ink cartridges need to be replaced. Does the OfficeJet Pro 8034e printer require all cartridges to be used or can I just replace the black ink cartridge?

Hi @Kingster1847,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e is designed to operate with all cartridges installed and in good condition. If one or more cartridges are missing or depleted, the printer might not function properly, even if you're only printing in black. This is because the printer uses a bit of color ink for maintenance tasks, such as printhead cleaning, to ensure optimal print quality.
Options for Using the Printer:
Replace Only the Black Cartridge:
- You can replace just the black ink cartridge if that's the only one you're using.
- However, the other cartridges must still have some ink and be installed for the printer to work.
Enable Black Ink Only (Grayscale) Printing:
- In the print settings, you can select grayscale printing or "black ink only" to save color ink.
- Keep in mind that even in this mode, color cartridges must still contain some ink.
Subscribe to HP Instant Ink:
- If your printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink, you can get replacement cartridges sent automatically before they run out. This could save you from having to replace individual cartridges frequently.
Let me know if you need help with replacing cartridges or adjusting the print settings!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
