My elderly folks have an OfficeJet J6480 all-in-One which is an HP Retired Product, so no support. I am trying to get a color cartridge for it, since I can't buy HP cartridge 75 anymore. I initially bought a non-HP cartridge which resulted in the printer giving an unsupported error message. Then on the HP website I saw a chart that suggested HP cartridge 95 was compatible, so I bought it and tried it, but again I got an error message. So is there a way to bypass the printer firmware check for cartridge ompatibility so that I can use the HP95 cartridge?

@Glenn134, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
I recognize that the cartridge is the problem, and that you bought an HP cartridge 95 that is incompatible with your device.
Here are the compatible cartridges for your unit:
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Garp, your info says that 75 is the right tri-color cartridge. This cartridge is no longer available for purchase. That's why I bought 95. It fits perfectly but the printer says it is incompatible. How can I bypass the compatibility check on the printer so that I can use the 95 cartridge?

Hi @Glenn134,
Thank you for the response:
Hey, as mentioned earlier, the 95 ink cartridge is not compatible with the unit. Thus, I suggest you refer to the above compatible cartridges.
I hope this helps.

I am not sure if you are a real person, or if you an AI virtual person, but you keep missing the most important issue. The compatible cartridge 75 is not available for purchase any longer. What other cartridge will work with J6480 printer, or how can I bypass firmware so that 95 will work?

Hi @Glenn134
Thanks for getting back to us.
My sincere apologies for the delay in getting your query answered.
I am afraid HP 95 cartridges are compatible with your printer model.
Find below the cartridges compatible with your printer as per the region:
There is no firmware or steps to make the HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer accept HP 95 cartridges.
If your printer is not listed, you can find the latest support information from the HP Store.
Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.
Keep us posted if you need any other assistance.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Once again, you are completely missing the most important issue.
Your chart says to use Cartridge 75. Cartridge 75 is no longer available for purchase from HP or on Amazon or on other e-stores that I have tried. If you know of a place that still sells Cartridge 75, please let me know where I can buy it. If there is no place to buy Cartridge 75, then please tell me what other option I have.
Please don't tell me again to buy a cartridge from the same chart.
