Ink Issue/ Older Generation

I recently bought new cartridges in my HP Office Jet 6958 Printer. I get an error message saying I am using an older generation cartridge. I just bought the cartridge, are you telling me that Amazon is selling old product? How can I get this to work?

"Older generation cartridges" - at the time the term was issued as an error message - did indeed indicate the cartridges are outdated.

As I recall --

There were two HP issued bulletins / updates about the changes to the cartridges and require a newer cartridge -- the most recent warning was (I believe) dated around 2020 and an even older bulletin dated 2017.  

It's been a minute -- I believe the references to the " older generation " error condition have been removed from newer HP documents.  ?

HP does not sell outdated product.

Not-HP merchants might keep and sell product until their inventory is depleted.

Perhaps contact the seller and ask about options.
