Hi @Kelly002776,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when a new ink cartridge won’t communicate with your HP printer, especially after you've already tried resetting and cleaning. Let’s walk through the troubleshooting steps first, and if the issue persists, I’ll guide you on how to request a replacement cartridge.

Troubleshooting Steps for Cartridge Communication Errors

1. Confirm Cartridge Authenticity

  • Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may not be recognized.
  • You can verify authenticity using the HP Cartridge Authentication Tool.

2. Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge

  • Power on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the cartridge and wait 30 seconds.
  • Reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean:
    • The gold contacts on the cartridge.
    • The contacts inside the printer.
  • Let everything dry for 10 minutes, then reinstall.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit Official HP® Support and enter your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power on.
