I have a hp office jet 4650. If I put a new ink cartridge in, it reads that cartridge counterfeit. I purchased cartilages at a office supply store and cartridge is legit. I can’t keep replacing cartridges that are still good. Is there a fix for this?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand that you get a Counterfeit ink cartridge message, if the error displays with genuine HP cartridges, then select No, OK, or Continue. If the print job completes, the issue is resolved but you might need to dismiss the message every time you print until the cartridges are depleted.
Otherwise, continue with these steps to resolve the issue.

Reset the printer:

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
  5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

And, also refer to Document: Ink cartridge errors refer to Cleaning the Ink Cartridge.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
