I just installed two new HP ink cartridges on my HP Envy Photo 7855.  Now I am getting the message:  "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer."  In 5 years I have never had this problem before.  I am using standard HP color and black ink purchased at Staples.  I have tried all the suggestions, e.g., cleaning the copper connections on printer and cartridges, unplugging the printer from the wall, waiting 60 seconds, etc.  Nothing works.  I'm wondering if the new ink cartridges I purchased for $140 are faulty.  Any new solutions would be appreciated.  This is my first post.

@terrystickers, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are receiving a message that the cartridges are not communicating correctly with your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  • Remove both cartridges from your printer.
  • Inspect the cartridges to ensure that any protective tape has been removed.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly back into their respective slots and ensure that the cartridges are properly secured.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge.
  • Allow the contacts to air dry or pat them dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer and let it sit idle.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using new, genuine HP cartridges. Non-genuine cartridges may cause communication issues.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date by visiting the HP website and checking for any available updates for your printer model.

Also, I suggest you refer to this guide: HP ink cartridge issues including, incompatible, missing and not recognized errors | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
