Ink was low so I purchased brand new HP cartridges. It wouldn't read the color inks saying that the cartridges are depleted even though they're brand new. I removed and installed one at a time and it is reading low ink. Now it is telling me to inspect it for leaky cartridge and won't go past that to print anything. Please help.

Hi @help304

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern and appreciate the effort you’ve already taken to reseat and check the cartridges. Since the printer is reporting depleted color cartridges and prompting you to inspect for leaks, let’s go through recommended steps to resolve this:

Confirm Cartridge Compatibility and Authenticity

  • Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP and match the exact model supported by your printer.
  • Check the cartridge label and part number against your printer’s specifications.

Inspect Cartridge Contacts and Seating

  • Power off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the color cartridges one at a time.
  • Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall each cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer or mobile device.
  • Select your printer, then choose Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the guided steps to automatically detect and resolve ink system issues.

Check for Leaks or Damage

  • Place the cartridges on a clean paper towel.
  • If you notice ink pooling or visible damage, replace the affected cartridge with a new HP cartridge.

Reset the Printer

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait 60 seconds, reconnect, and power on again.
  • Re‑add the printer in the HP App if prompted.

If the printer continues to block printing after these steps, the cartridge may need replacement.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
