Hi all, my black ink cartridge is showing empty. I’ve tried cleaning it. No luck. It’s newly installed. I’m on hp ink contract and can’t get another cartridge until this is resolved

Hi @Bar14
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your black ink cartridge, especially since you're on an HP Ink subscription. Since the cartridge is new and you're unable to get a replacement until the issue is resolved, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the "empty" cartridge issue:
Steps to Fix Ink Cartridge Showing Empty:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Ensure the black ink cartridge is seated correctly in the printer. Sometimes, the cartridge might not be inserted fully, which can cause it to show as empty.
- If the cartridge isn’t inserted properly, remove it and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place.
2. Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the black ink cartridge from the printer.
- Gently clean the contacts (the copper-colored parts of the cartridge) with a soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel lightly dampened with water. Be careful not to touch the ink nozzles.
- Reinstall the cartridge, making sure it is properly connected.
3. Check for Protective Tape
- If the cartridge is new, make sure you removed the protective tape that often covers the cartridge nozzles. If the tape is still on, the printer might not be able to detect the ink level properly.
- Remove any plastic packaging or tape from the new cartridge, then try printing again.
4. Reset the Printer
- Sometimes, simply turning the printer off and on can help reset the ink cartridge detection.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for a couple of minutes.
- Plug it back in and power it on, then check the ink level again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
