I was using a generic print cartridge until it said it was incompatible with hp printer?  I purchased  new 63XL cartridges and I’m still getting the same response, incompatible?  I’ve turn off/on several times hoping to reset but to no avail?  Help!

Hi @ELBartlett,

Thank you for the response.

Try these steps:

Verify Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Ensure that the HP 63XL cartridges are genuine. Counterfeit or refilled cartridges might cause compatibility issues.
  • Use cartridges purchased from authorized retailers.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Open the printer's cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  • Remove the cartridges and carefully reinsert them into their respective slots, ensuring they click into place.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Let them dry before reinserting the cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer ON, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and turn the printer back on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any pending firmware updates for your printer. Ensure your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, then access settings on the control panel to update firmware.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If you have another compatible cartridge (either the same or from a different pack), try using it to see if the error persists.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Sometimes, misconfiguration in printer settings can cause errors. Reset printer settings to default to ensure no wrong settings are causing this issue.

I hope this helps.

Hi

ive tried everything you suggested 2-3 times and still shows incompatibility. These are new cartridges that I’ve paid $130.00 cad that are no good that the printer is not serviceable?  I will buy a new Canon!

Hi @ELBartlett,

I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially after investing in brand new cartridges. Thank you for your patience and for trying all the earlier steps. Let's go a little deeper to see if we can get things working before you give up on your HP Envy 4522.

Check Regional Ink Locking

HP cartridges can be region-specific.

If your printer was originally set up in a different country or region than the cartridges were purchased (for example, a U.S. printer with Canadian cartridges), this can cause incompatibility.

Contact HP Support directly to request a regional reset of your printer. They may verify cartridge and printer origin via serial numbers.

Disable Cartridge Protection (If Enabled)

Sometimes, HP’s security settings block even genuine cartridges.

Open your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):

Type your printer's IP address (found via printer settings) into a web browser.

Navigate to:

Settings > HP Cartridge Protection.

Turn off “Cartridge Protection” and apply the settings.

Power cycle the printer and try again.

Double-Check Ink Cartridge Authentication

Let’s make sure the cartridges you bought are actually HP-certified.

Go to HP's Cartridge Authentication Tool.

Download and run the HP SureSupply app, or use your phone to scan the QR code on the cartridge box.

I hope this helps.
