Hello I own a HP Envy 4520
Changed my ink cartridges and they are not working. I’ve tried several things: Turning the printer on and off.
making sure the paper isn’t clogged or jammed
cleaned the heads of where the ink cartridges are.
The test page only prints blue and pink.
Please offer me some solutions.
thank you!

@millnphil, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP Envy 4520 is only printing blue and pink after replacing the ink cartridges, and you've already tried basic steps like power cycling and cleaning the printhead, here are some targeted troubleshooting steps,
Check Cartridge Authenticity and Installation
- Ensure the black cartridge is genuine HP and not expired.
- Remove and reinsert the black cartridge firmly. Sometimes poor contact can cause issues.
Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility
- On the printer's control panel:
- Go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
- Run the cleaning cycle up to 3 times, checking print quality after each.
Align the Printer
- Go to Setup > Tools > Align Printer.
- This can help recalibrate the ink delivery system.
Check Ink Levels
- On the printer screen or via the HP Smart app, check if the black ink is showing as full.
- If it’s low or not detected, the cartridge might be defective.
Bypass Cartridge Protection (if applicable)
- If you previously used HP Instant Ink or cartridge protection:
- Go to Settings > Web Services > Remove Web Services.
- Then reinstall cartridges and try again.
Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.
- Visit HP support site to download the latest firmware for your model.
Try a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.
