This printer has been eating ink since the day I bought it. Always saying 'ink low' after what seemed like not a long time of use, not very many pages. Even when I wouldn't use it for a while, I would come back and it would say ink low. And I'd wonder why that happened. Now I just isntalled a new cyan cartridge less than two weeks ago, only printed 2 pages on it two weeks ago. One of which was just text and the other was an image with virtually no cyan on it. And today I go to use the printer and it says that yellow, magenta, AND the new cyan are all low. (The black, however, seems okay.) I wouldn't mind so much if I could print in black and white without need to have the color cartridges, but it seems I can't do that either. And not only that, the scanner can't scan pencil drawings... one of the main reasons I bought the thing. I'm sorry to say it, but T=this thing has been eating money since I bought it! I don't know what to do.

Hi @kevFerrara,
I'd like to help!
What is the error you receive when you try and scan a pencil drawing?
Your printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. To prevent clogs in the printing mechanism and other print quality issues, some ink must be available in all the cartridges to perform periodic servicing tasks.
Actual yield will vary depending upon the amount of content on the page. Highly "dense" documents, may yield fewer pages while less dense ones would yield more pages than the standard. The yield you experience will depend upon the content that you print.
As you described that you had printed only 2 pages and the cartridge indicates low, seems like a cartridge/printhead issue.
As this is a hardware issue, I’d recommend you contact HP Phone Support in your region regarding service options for your printer.
Follow the instructions below to reach them:
1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

I've tried to access the help section several time and it keeps saying my serial number isn't valid. But I'm reading it right off the side of my printer! I can't tell whether the 7 and 8th letters are zeros or the letter "O" but I've tried both ways and neither work! This is the serial on the side of my Officejet 7612
CES5AVOOC9
CES5AV00C9
I'm not receiving any 'error' when I scan a pencil drawing. It just does a bad job.

Every HP printer has a serial number applied to the surface of the printer.
The serial number is a combination of numbers and letters and its a 10 digit code
Look for a label on the product's surface.
-
Search your printer for a Serial Number, Serial No, S/N, or SN printed on a label. You might need to open the ink cartridge access area or scanner lid to reveal the label.
Examples of where you might find the serial number:
-
Inside the ink cartridge access area
-
On the back of a printer
-
Hope this helps!
Keep me posted!
