Hi @Iamsofoff

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how concerning it feels when you’ve just refilled the ink tanks and the printer still reports black as empty. Let’s go step by step to make sure the printer recognizes the ink correctly.

Check the ink tank cap and vent

  • Ensure the black ink tank cap is fully closed and the vent is open. If the vent is blocked or sealed, the printer may not detect ink flow.

Run an ink system reset

  • Power off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds, then reconnect and power on.
  • This forces the printer to refresh its ink level detection.

Perform a cleaning cycle

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings → Maintenance → Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle to draw ink from the tank into the printhead. Sometimes after refilling, air bubbles prevent proper detection.

Check for genuine ink

  • Make sure the ink used is compatible with your printer model. Non‑HP ink can sometimes cause detection errors.

Update printer firmware

Re‑seat the ink sensor

  • If your printer has a removable ink sensor or cartridge interface, gently remove and re‑insert it to ensure proper contact.

Run HP App diagnostics

  • Open the HP App on Windows 11.
  • Select your printer → Settings → Advanced → Diagnose & Fix.
  • This tool can automatically correct ink level reporting issues.

If the black ink still shows empty after these steps, try printing a test page. If the page prints correctly, the issue is only with the ink level indicator, not the ink supply.
