I accidentally installed a cyan cartridge that was an old one- got error message- then installed a new one- error still there so for another new one and installed. It said “genuine” hp cartridge installed, showed it filled, then went back to error message showing it empty. I have tried ALL the trouble shooting videos- how do I get it to recognize the new cartridge or get rid of the error message?

Hi @PTaiken,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer is stuck with a false error or memory lock from the previously installed cartridge, even though you've since installed a new, genuine HP cyan cartridge.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:
1. Hard Reset the Printer
- Turn on the printer.
- With the printer ON, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first, then into the printer.
- Power the printer back on if it doesn't start automatically.
This resets internal memory, including cartridge info.
2. Remove and Reinsert All Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove all ink cartridges, even the ones that seem fine.
- Power off the printer.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Power the printer back on and reinsert the cartridges one by one, starting with black, then cyan.
3. Check for Protective Tape
- Make sure the new cartridge has no blue or orange plastic protective tape still covering the nozzle or copper contacts.
- If it’s used and previously unsealed, wipe the copper contacts gently with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi! Thank you for trying to help. I followed your instructions exactly and had actually tried misting of those troubleshoots-except the 30 sec one. Nothing. Same error message. It says …I don’t know what to do now. Feel I’ve tried everything from YouTube videos and your help. It’s clearly stuck on that message.
