@Rabe13, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Ink Cartridge Status Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The issue you're experiencing where your printer reports the yellow ink cartridge as empty despite it being full can have several potential causes:

Electrostatic Discharge Sensitivity:

  • Ink cartridges are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Ensure you're handling them carefully to avoid damaging the electronic circuitry.

Cartridge Status Misreporting:

  • The status of each cartridge is reported in the front panel. Sometimes, it may misreport due to issues such as:
    • Reseat: The cartridge is not responding, removing and reinserting it may solve the problem.
    • Replace: The cartridge has been identified as faulty. It should be replaced with a functional cartridge.
    • Wrong/Incompatible/Incorrect: The cartridge type is not suitable for this printer.
    • Expired: The cartridge has reached its expiration date.
    • Altered: The cartridge has been identified as refilled or altered.

Replacing Ink Cartridges:

  • You can replace a cartridge at any time when its padlock LED is off. If the padlock LED is on, you must pause the job queue and wait until the LED turns off.
  • Go to the front panel, tap the Ink cartridges tab, and select Replace.

Disadvantages of Refilled or Altered Cartridges:

  • Using refilled or altered cartridges can damage the printer. The printer warranty will not be valid for repairs related to such cartridges.
  • Print quality may be impaired.
  • The printer may be unable to estimate the ink level in the cartridge accurately, leading to misreporting.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

Reseat the Cartridge:

  • Go to the front panel and select the Ink cartridges tab.
  • Press the old cartridge and slide it up to release it.
  • Shake the new cartridge six times.
  • Insert the new cartridge and push it in as far as it will go.
  • Follow the instructions on the front panel.

Check for Electronic Issues:

  • Ensure you're not touching the pins, leads, and circuitry when handling cartridges as they are sensitive to ESD.

Dispose Responsibly:

  • Make sure you comply with all federal, state, and local regulations when disposing of ink system consumables.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
