I just bought a new laser jet printer. The model is MFP 179fnw.

The print quality of the middle of the pages are good but the top and bottom always have some faded words or images from the same page.

 

Both color and b&w printing are having the same smearing problem at the top and bottom of the pages.

 

I checked the drum and the toner, they look clean. What might be the problem? 

 

Not sure if it affects the toner quality, the printer was manufacturered in 2022.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

 

I see that you are facing an issue with print quality on your Printer.

Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

 

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

 

Kindly refer to the steps on this link to troubleshoot and let me know if that resolves the issue.

 

Also, update the printer firmware using this link.

Hi Irina6, I followed all the steps and updated the fireware also. The print quality is still bad with only the top and bottom of the pages with ink smears.

 

I also replaced the black color cartridge today to rule out toner issue. I tried B&W print after that, and it has the same smearing issue.

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much.
