Please help!  Found my printer sitting in a puddle of ink!!!  I use this device EVERY DAY....   I checked the innards, and can not find any mess at all....  just underneath the body.  AND...  the printer is still working just fine.  Do I need to do anything???  Will I hurt anything by continuing to use it?  Also, none of the levels on the 'ink calculator' show depleted cartridges.....  they all have some or much remaining......  Please give me your input.....  Thank you.

Hi @RIjill,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer sitting in a puddle of ink while still printing normally. Let’s go through a few checks.

Power Off and Inspect the Printer

Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord.

Lift the printer carefully and check the surface underneath.

Wipe away any spilled ink using paper towels.

Inspect the bottom edges of the printer for fresh ink residue.

Allow the printer to sit on a protected surface during inspection.

CAUTION: Avoid tilting the printer sharply, as internal ink can spill.

Check Ink Cartridges or Ink Tanks

Open the cartridge or tank access area.

Confirm all cartridges or tank caps are fully seated and closed.

Look for cracked cartridges, loose tank plugs, or ink pooling.

Remove and reinstall each cartridge securely.

Close the access door and power the printer back on.

Inspect the Printhead Parking Area

Open the cartridge access door with the printer powered on.

Wait for the carriage to stop moving.

Look at the printhead service station area on the right side.

Check for excessive wet ink buildup or sponge saturation.

Close the access door.

Note: Some ink accumulation in the service station is normal due to cleaning cycles.

Run a Print Quality Diagnostic

Load plain paper.

Open Setup or Tools on the printer control panel.

Select Print Quality Report or Diagnostic Page.

Check for missing colors or streaks.

Monitor for additional leaking after printing.

Monitor the Printer Base for Continued Leakage

Place the printer on a disposable mat or paper.

Print several pages.

Check underneath the printer after printing.

Observe ink levels on the control panel or HP app.

Stop using the printer if new leakage appears.

Note: Ink found under the printer can sometimes come from internal maintenance sponges becoming saturated after repeated cleaning cycles or transport movement. Continued heavy leaking may indicate a damaged cartridge, tank seal, or internal ink system.
