After the latest firmware update my printer no longer shows ink levels. Everything worked prior to the update. I also did a full reset with ink levels still not shown.

Hi @thobbs66
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like after the firmware update, your printer stopped displaying the ink levels, which can be frustrating. Since everything was working properly before the update, it's likely that the update either caused a conflict with the printer's software or reset certain settings.
Here are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:
1. Check the Printer Settings
Sometimes, after a firmware update, certain settings might need to be reconfigured. Check the printer’s menu or web interface (if it has one) to ensure that ink level reporting is enabled.
- For printers with a web interface (many HP, Canon, and Epson models have this):
- Open a web browser.
- Type the printer's IP address into the browser’s address bar. (You can find the printer’s IP address in its settings or print a network configuration page from the printer’s menu.)
- Login to the printer’s interface (you may need the admin password).
- Navigate to the status or maintenance settings and check if ink levels are set to be displayed.
2. Restart the Printer and Computer
- Power cycle the printer: Turn it off, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Restart the computer: If the printer is connected to your PC, restarting your computer can help reset any communication between the two devices.
3. Check the Printer Drivers
Sometimes a firmware update can cause the drivers to become incompatible with the new version, which may affect ink level reporting.
Reinstall or Update Printer Drivers:
- Go to the Hp website
- Download and install the latest drivers and software for your printer model.
- During installation, make sure to choose any options related to ink level monitoring if prompted.
If you're using a wireless printer, make sure that your printer is still connected to the same network as your computer. If the printer has lost connection, it might not be able to report ink levels correctly.
4. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
Since you mentioned that you did a full reset, it's worth ensuring that the reset included all the necessary settings for ink monitoring. Some printers have a deep reset or an option to restore to factory settings via the printer’s menu or web interface.
- Perform a factory reset (check your printer's manual for specific instructions). This will reset all settings to their default values, which may resolve any issues caused by the firmware update.
5. Check for Firmware Issues
- Firmware Corruption: Occasionally, a firmware update can fail or become corrupted, causing issues like this. If the firmware update was unsuccessful, the printer may not function as expected. Check the manufacturer's support page for any firmware rollback or reinstall options.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
