Hi @Sferry98,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9140b was printing normally with the cartridges you already had, but after the firmware update, the printer started displaying a non-HP chip message. Let’s check the cartridges first so we can determine the appropriate next step.

Could you confirm:

  1. Are the cartridges currently installed Original HP cartridges, or are they third-party/remanufactured cartridges?
  2. What is the exact non-HP chip message or error code displayed on the printer?
  3. If possible, share a clear photo of the error message and the cartridge labels, with any personal or printer-identifying information covered.

HP printers can use security chips or electronic circuitry in their cartridges. HP advises that cartridges using a non-HP chip or modified/non-HP electronic circuitry might not work, including cartridges that may have worked previously: Ink cartridge problem | HP® Support

If these are third-party or remanufactured cartridges, check with the retailer or cartridge supplier regarding the chip used with the cartridges. If the cartridges are Original HP cartridges, let us know and share the cartridge details so we can check the issue further.

HP also advises that if a cartridge is being identified as non-HP but you believe you purchased a genuine HP supply, its authenticity can be checked through HP.

You can also review HP's cartridge troubleshooting guidance here: HP ink cartridge issues including, incompatible, missing and not recognized errors | HP® Support

Since the message appeared after the firmware update, we do not want you replacing your existing cartridges unnecessarily. Let us first confirm whether they are Original HP or third-party cartridges and see the exact message the printer is displaying, and we'll take it from there.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
