HP LaserJet Pro 4001dw Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 4001dw printer. My previous printer is no longer usable because the constant ink smudging on labels I printed permanently affected the hardware. It would print smudges on all jobs.

Unfortunately I am encountering the same problem with this printer as it pertains to labels. I chatted with and emailed HP support but didn't find a solution. They suggested I print a cleaning page. This did not resolve the problem.

I suspect it has something to do with the density settings but I don't know how to change those as I have only basic computer knowledge.

I use Microsoft Word to print labels. Each sheet of labels is 11 by 8.5 inches and weighs about 11 grams. I put it in tray 1. In the printer properties, I select labels as the printing shortcut. On the paper quality, I've tried printing with normal and economode print quality. The difference, if any, is negligible.

Below is a photo of the smudging. If I rub my hand on the ink, it smudges even further.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the quick reply.  Label is not among the available options. See screenshot below.

It should be, labels are supported, you have wrong drivers installed.

Set it to Mid-weight try printing then if still not good set it to Heavy.

Setting it to mid-weight seems to have solved the problem. Thank you for your help.

However, I'd like to add label to the paper type options. How do I go about doing this? If you can advise step by step as I am not familiar with the process.
