Hello, i am trying to print addresses on my envelopes (18.4cm x 13,4cm). They are working perfectly for one brand which are cream in colour (I bought these as testers as they are cheap), but when I print on a coloured envelope (same size) the ink is smudging. I am using the same settings, same size envelopes. They only difference I can see between them is the colour. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

My printer is HP ENVY 6000

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi @suzannemaria,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue you're experiencing could be related to the type of paper or envelope you're using rather than solely the color. Colored envelopes may have different absorbency properties or coatings compared to cream-colored ones, which can affect how ink behaves on them. Here are a few potential solutions you can try.

  • Check Paper Type Setting: Ensure that you've selected the correct paper type setting in your printer settings. Different paper types require different ink application and drying methods. You might need to select a setting like "Envelope" or "Thick Paper" to ensure proper ink application and drying.
  • Allow Sufficient Drying Time: After printing, allow the ink to dry completely before handling the envelopes. This might take longer on colored envelopes compared to cream-colored ones.
  • Experiment with Printing Quality: Try adjusting the print quality settings on your printer. Sometimes, reducing the print quality slightly can help prevent smudging as less ink is applied to the paper.
  • Use Inkjet-Compatible Envelopes: Ensure that the colored envelopes you're using are compatible with inkjet printers. Some envelopes are specifically designed for laser printers and may not work well with inkjet ink.
  • Consider Envelope Coatings: Some colored envelopes come with coatings or finishes that may not work well with certain types of ink. Look for envelopes specifically labeled as suitable for inkjet printing.
  • Test Different Brands or Models: If possible, try using envelopes from different brands or models to see if you get better results. Not all envelopes are created equal, and some may perform better with your printer than others.
  • Clean Printer Heads: If you haven't done so recently, clean your printer heads according to the HP instructions. Buildup or debris on the printer heads can affect print quality.

By experimenting with these suggestions, you should be able to find a solution that works for printing on colored envelopes with your HP ENVY 6000 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
