Hi, I have a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw, has worked well for a few years. Now I find magenta ink spray down the right side of most printed pages. I have installed a brand new HP brand magenta toner cartridge and same thing is happening. Any suggestions?

Hi @GablesKaty,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing magenta toner spray along the side of your printed pages, even after installing a new HP brand magenta toner cartridge, can be frustrating. This issue is often due to either a faulty toner cartridge (which seems unlikely in your case since you've already replaced it with a new one) or problems with the printer's internal components that interact with the toner cartridge. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
Clean the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer and remove the magenta toner cartridge.
- Check for any loose toner inside the printer and clean it up carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth or a small vacuum designed for printers. Be gentle to avoid damaging any internal components.
- Look for any damaged parts or anything unusual within the printer's interior that could cause the issue.
Check the Imaging Drum:
- The problem might be related to the imaging drum. Each toner cartridge is either equipped with an imaging drum or works with a separate imaging drum unit.
- Inspect the imaging drum for any signs of damage or excessive wear. If your printer has a separate imaging drum, consider replacing it if it shows signs of wear or damage.
Examine the Transfer Belt:
- The transfer belt is another component that could cause this issue. It transfers the toner from the cartridge to the paper. Any damage or toner buildup on the transfer belt could lead to imperfect prints.
- Carefully inspect and clean the transfer belt according to your printer’s manual. Look for signs of wear or damage.
Fuser Unit Inspection:
- The fuser unit, which bonds the toner to the paper, might be causing the issue if it's not heating evenly or is damaged.
- Inspect the fuser unit for damage. Note that fuser units get very hot, so always make sure the printer is cool before touching the fuser.
Software and Firmware Updates:
- Although less likely, make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Hp sometimes release firmware updates that can resolve printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
