Hi @Huskymom1113, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Ink system failure on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is usually caused by a clogged printhead, outdated firmware, or issues with the ink cartridges. Try the following solutions:

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
  6. Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all cartridges and inspect them for leaks or damage.
  3. Reinstall the cartridges firmly into their respective slots.
  4. Close the access door and restart the printer.

Clean the Printhead

  1. From the printer control panel, go to:
    • SetupPrinter MaintenanceClean Printhead.
  2. If the issue persists, remove the printhead manually:
    • Open the ink cartridge access door.
    • Lift the latch to release the printhead.
    • Remove and gently clean the printhead nozzles with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
    • Let it dry completely before reinstalling it.
    • Close the latch, reinstall cartridges, and restart the printer.

Update the Printer Firmware

  1. Go to HP Support (HP Software and Drivers) and check for firmware updates.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware for your OfficeJet Pro 8600.

Perform a Semi-Full Reset
Please note: This will reset settings to factory defaults.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold “#” + “3” on the printer’s keypad.
  3. While holding the buttons, turn on the printer.
  4. Release the buttons when the printer powers on.
  5. If the issue persists, repeat the reset using “#” + “6” for a deeper reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
