Hi I have just replaced colour and black inks. The colour is perfect but the black isn't registering.
Please can you help?

Hi @Pam1949Z,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2721e All-in-One Printer is not registering the black ink after replacing the cartridge, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
Check the Ink Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure the black ink cartridge is properly installed in the printer.
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door and remove the black ink cartridge. Reinsert it firmly into the correct slot, ensuring it clicks into place.
Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the black ink cartridge.
- Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinserting the cartridge and closing the access door.
Run a Printer Test Page:
- Turn on the printer and print a test page to see if the black ink is working.
- You can usually do this via the printer’s control panel or through the printer settings on your computer.
Align the Printer:
- Aligning the printer can sometimes resolve issues with ink cartridges not being recognized or printing incorrectly.
- Use the printer software or the printer’s control panel to run an alignment process.
Update or Reinstall the Printer Drivers:
- Ensure your printer drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with ink cartridges.
- Visit the HP Support website to download the latest drivers for your printer model.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about a minute.
- Plug it back in, turn it on, and try printing again.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve issues with the printer not recognizing ink cartridges.
- Check for updates via the printer software or the HP website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
