Hi @Dog38,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble installing HP 67XL cartridges in your HP DeskJet 2700 series printer, even though you just removed standard HP 67 cartridges, here are some key things to check:
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- The HP DeskJet 2700 series (including models like 2722, 2755, etc.) does support HP 67 and HP 67XL cartridges.
- Make sure the cartridge is genuine HP and not a refilled or third-party version that may be rejected.
2. Insert the Cartridge Correctly
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
- Insert the black cartridge on the right and tri-color on the left.
- Push each cartridge in until it clicks into place.
The XL cartridges are physically larger, but they are designed to fit the same slot.

3. Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth and a bit of distilled water.
- Let dry and reinsert.
4. Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware may not recognize new cartridges.
- Download the latest firmware from: 🔗HP DeskJet 2700 All-in-One Printer series | HP® Support
5. Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
