Hi @Ctfire,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "Missing or failed printhead" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 often points to issues with the printhead itself, despite replacing the ink cartridges.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check Printhead Installation:
- Make sure the printhead is correctly installed. Open the printer's access door, remove the printhead, and reinsert it carefully. Ensure it clicks into place.
Clean the Printhead Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the printhead and ink cartridges.
- Gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the printhead and cartridges.
Reset the Printer:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printhead issues. Visit the HP website and check for any available updates for your printer model.
Perform a Printhead Cleaning or Alignment:
- If your printer allows it, perform a printhead cleaning or alignment from the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app.
Inspect the Printhead for Damage:
- If the printhead appears damaged or worn, you might need to replace it. Make sure you use a genuine HP printhead for your model.
Printer Diagnostics: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS)
- Run any available diagnostics or troubleshooting tools from the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.
