I have a printer that is no longer working correctly.  I am installing a new printer today.

I recently received cartridges via subscription for the improper working printer.  They have not been opened.

Can I return them and either get credit or cartridges for my new printer?

Hi @Jbdiesel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly.

HP Instant Ink Subscription Cartridges: Return & Exchange Policy

1. Instant Ink Cartridges Are Not Refundable

  • Cartridges received through the HP Instant Ink subscription are tied to your printer and account.
  • They are not eligible for return or refund, even if unopened.
  • HP Instant Ink is billed based on pages printed, not the cartridges themselves.

2. If you cancel your Instant Ink service, you can print with Instant Ink cartridges until the end of the billing cycle.

  • At the end of the billing cycle, you receive your final bill and the Instant Ink cartridges stop working and should be returned to HP.

3. Please install store-bought HP original ink cartridge.

  • Subscription cartridges or generic (non-hp) cartridges will not function in your printer now that the service is cancelled.

Let me know if you’d like help updating your Instant Ink account or selecting compatible cartridges for your new printer. You deserve a smooth transition.
