Hi all! I just bought my first HP printer from eBay, but as it's a refurb it doesn't come with ink. I tried signing up for Instant Ink so I'd have carts for when the printer is delivered. Apparently, I have to connect the printer in order to proceed with the signup process?

Is there a way to sign up without my printer connected? If I'm forced to wait, how quickly are my first carts going to arrive (in in the UK)?

Thanks! 🙂

Hi there,

There is no way to enroll to instant ink without a working and connected printer, or ink available as well.

I suggest buying cartridges from any nearby store, even a single one, then later enroll to HP Instant Ink for the next ink cartridges with no need to wait for any cartridges, the service only starts when the supplied ink is installed on the printer.

Generally, HP Instant Ink cartridge delivery takes about 10 days and, but you must have a working and connected printer with ink to enroll to the HP Instant Ink service first.

You may check below support document with the steps to enroll to HP Instant Ink:

IMHO, that's pretty dumb... It's the sort of nonsense HP used to pull when I owned one of their PCs 20 years ago.

I bought a twin pack of carts in the end, but they cost me only £9 less than the printer did.

The link you provided (which I'd already looked at before I posted my question) is incorrect - it doesn't mention the need for installed carts in the printer!
