I received my instant ink order but when I went to replace the old cartridges, I am getting a message that the black in ink is incompatible. It is the same as the cartridge I just removed.

Hi @kinder100,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating to receive an "ink cartridge incompatible" message, especially when you've ordered the same type of cartridge. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Check for Packaging Errors: Ensure that you've received the correct cartridge model as per your printer's specifications. Sometimes packaging errors can occur.
  • Remove and Reinstall: Sometimes, the cartridges might not be seated correctly. Remove the incompatible cartridge and reinstall it carefully, making sure it clicks into place.
  • Clean the Contacts: There may be dirt or ink residue on the cartridge contacts or in the corresponding slots in your printer. Gently clean both the cartridge contacts and the printer contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Update Firmware: Some printers require firmware updates for new ink cartridges to be recognized. Check your printer's manual or the HP website for instructions on how to update the printer's firmware.
  • Restart Your Printer: Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Expiry Date: Ink cartridges can have expiration dates. Ensure that the cartridges you received have not expired.
  • Double-Check Compatibility: Make sure that the cartridge model you received is indeed compatible with your specific printer model. Sometimes printers within the same series may require slightly different cartridge types.
  • Inspect the Old Cartridge: Before discarding the old cartridge, examine it to make sure it's the same as the new one you received. Sometimes, people mistakenly switch cartridges, leading to the error message.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
