I pay for the 50 pages/month and it always says I have 150 pages rollover.  That being said, this was one of those months where I had more copies.  95 to be exact.  But probably at least 30 of those are trash.  Why?  Well I knew that the way it looked with all the blue tint, instead of vibrant colors, that it was running out of ink.  I contacted Instant Ink, never able to talk to a real person, and finally I really did run out of ink.  Printer just sitting with its golden error light and doing nothing else because its out of ink.  It says that ink was shipped Friday but it doesn't appear to have moved from the original shipping post.  My problem is this:  why am I paying every month for copies that I don't even use that much if it doesn't "sense" that it is low on ink way before I run out and make sure that I have it here ready.  And if I am reading my account page right, it says I am being charged extra for those "rollover" copies that I actually used this month.  Like what?  This may not be such a good deal after all.

Hi @Melindalc,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It’s frustrating to deal with unexpected issues, especially when you’re paying for a service like HP Instant Ink and running into problems with ink availability and billing. Let’s break down your concerns and see if we can address them:

Understanding Instant Ink Rollovers and Billing

Rollover Pages: HP Instant Ink allows unused pages from one month to roll over to the next, up to a certain limit. If you have 150 rollover pages, that means you had 150 unused pages from previous months. However, if you’re charged extra for rollover pages used in the current month, it's important to understand how this is calculated and billed.

Extra Charges: If you exceed your monthly page limit (in your case, 50 pages) and use rollover pages, there shouldn’t normally be extra charges unless you exceed the combined total of your plan and rollover pages. Double-check the terms of your plan regarding excess usage and rollover pages.

Ink Monitoring and Delivery Issues

Ink Monitoring: HP Instant Ink is designed to monitor ink levels and send replacements automatically when levels are low. However, this system isn’t perfect and can sometimes fail to detect low ink levels promptly.

Shipping Delays: If you’ve been notified that ink was shipped but it hasn’t moved from the original shipping post, this might indicate a shipping or logistical issue. Shipping delays can sometimes happen, especially if there’s a problem with the carrier or fulfillment center.

Steps to Resolve Your Issues

Check Your Instant Ink Account:

  • Account Overview: Review your account on the HP Instant Ink website to ensure your plan details and billing are correct.
  • Billing Details: Confirm how extra pages are billed and ensure there are no unexpected charges.

Monitor Ink Levels:

  • Check Ink Status: Regularly check your printer’s ink status to avoid running out of ink unexpectedly. Most printers with HP Instant Ink have a status display on the printer itself or through the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
